Good day gamers,
- Playing some Tank Duel and Ardennes ’44 with my friend Anthony. Both games are pretty good. If you are interested in playing some wargames, send me a note at Dave@GameMasterGames.com.
- Ran another session of paid D&D. Yes, that is right, I got paid to be a Game Master for a Dungeons & Dragons game. You too can book me for just $5 a session! (tips appreciated) See details here. Or just email me at Dave@GameMasterGames.com. I can also teach board games.
- Still playing my Dominions 5 game with Bill and Rich. Rich keeps invading my nation and taking all my people to turn into undead. It’s super annoying. 🙂 I keep winning battles, but feel like I’m losing the war. Bill is quietly destroying my AI Allies. Ugh…
- Ginger got a call to be a wedding officiant for a December wedding at a restaurant for 50 guests. Haven’t they heard there is a pandemic? I don’t think they know that this will NOT happen. I’m guessing the venue hasn’t told them yet.
FATDOG: Yes, that is right, FATDOG is right around the corner! FATDOG is “Friday After Thanksgiving Day of Gaming”. Due to the pandemic, we won’t be meeting in person this year, but we will be doing a virtual ‘Day of Gaming’. All of this information is getting out a bit late, but that is perfectly ok. We do hope you play some games with friends and let us know about it. However, we can support you, schedule you and possibly find you players. Here are some cool things to check out:
We will be using multiple platforms to communicate and play on. Just a few listed here are:
Discord, Board Game Arena, Zoom, Vassal, Tabletopia, Tabletop Simulator, Steam and potentially others.
Please go the website link above and register on Eventbrite or email me at Dave@GameMasterGames.com
We look forward to seeing at FATDOG!
We will be looking at other events we can hold throughout the year too.
Lovecraft Country: I am playing in a Call of Cthulhu RPG campaign and have also done so before. Recently, I just read ‘The Terrible Old Man’, a HP Lovecraft short story, for an event. I have played the Arkham Horror board game. And now, if you didn’t know already, HBO has come out with a series using HP Lovecraft mythos called Lovecraft Country.
I watched the first episode, which is two hours long. It is more of a pilot, introducing the characters and the setting. It’s quite shocking for multiple reasons. It’s set in the 1950’s and the main characters are African Americans, so there is a large overtone of racism and how the characters deal with that is party of the storyline. Some scenes are very jarring, even before you encounter any of the strange Lovecraftian situations, because of the racism. This show is not for the ‘faint of heart’. It’s definitely not ‘Ginger friendly’. My wife, Ginger, tried not to watch violent shows and movies.
So far, it’s good. I will need to watch more to give a better judgement. I would love to hear about your experiences with the show, but please, no spoilers. 🙂 Send an email to: Dave@GameMasterGames.com.
Thank you for making it to the end of another Game Master Dave’s Semi-Daily Dispatch. Give yourself 100 XP and until we meet again across the internet at FATDOG, keep your guns dry, your flashlights ready and your sanity STRONG! ACK!!! What is that over there!?!
- Game Master Dave
Foxy, “David Dear, you know The Ginger is sensitive to all things unusual. Please keep your electronic devices hidden when continuing to watch that horrible show.”
Lambie, “I can’t wait to see what happens in Devon County in that dope show, Dude. Those things are crazy. Wow. Mr. HP is wacked out. When are you doing EP 2?”
Snuggle Bunny, “Boo boo, why is the dog FAT?”
Chester, “Chester.”
One response to “FATDOG, Lovecraft Country and more…”
Lovecraft Country was AWESOME. Definitely some jarring moments but more than worth sticking with. FYI – it’s co-produced by J.J. Abrams (Alias, Fringe, Star Trek) and Jordan Peele (Get Out, Us).
Just an aside: Fringe is one of my most favorite TV series of all time.
