“Making friends and uniting communities one day hiking trip at a time.”

Good day gamers,

  • Been playing a lot of Civilization VI on Steam, both solitaire and with friends. Bought the newest content on a great sale on Humble Bundle, but I had to sign up for their monthly service. Oops…reminds me…I need to cancel that. 🙂
  • Haven’t streamed a lot recently, but hope to do so again. Streamed my OOTP game the other night.
  • Playing Sa Battalla, Strat-o-matic Baseball and Iron & Oak on Vassal.
  • Just watched The Conjuring. I don’t think I’ve seen it since it was in the theaters. The Warrens actually came to Norwich University in about 1990 to investigate the library there. I listened to their lecture. Very cool.
  • Just finished the book ‘Out of Place and Time‘, which was very good. Reading now ‘The Super Natural‘ by Whitley Strieber and Jeffery Kirpal. This current book will change the way I see the world. Amazing stuff. Send me questions if you want… Dave@GameMasterGames.com

Harriman State Park Day Trips: Wow, Ginger got out a book from the Bethpage Library titled ‘Circuit Hikes in Harriman‘ by Don Weise. We used this book for some day trips into Harriman State Park just North of the border with New Jersey and just south of West Point. Here are some highlights and I’ll include some pictures…

  • Saw into a old coal mine.
  • Saw a glacial erratic rock. Pretty cool. Just this thing sitting on top of small mountain.
  • Saw a bunch of frogs, a black rat snake but no deer until we got to the parking lot of Hobby Lobby on Route 17.
  • Saw a cool cave shelter that may have been used by Native Americans.
  • Saw the Lewis Family Cemetery. Lewis was a farmer in the area who bought up land and farmed in the late 1800s and into the early 1900s.
  • Had dinner at Dottie Audrey’s Bakery and Kitchen. This is owned by Pat and his wife. Pat was a Vice-President of Le Pain Quotidien, when I was a General Manager of their 53rd St. location. The food and the service at Dottie Audrey’s was amazing! Ginger and I went there three times in a week. We went not only to support a small business and our friends there, but because they have lots of vegan options for Ginger. If you go hiking at Harriman State Park, we cannot recommend enough for your to check out this place. It’s in Tuxedo, NY. The only drawback to the place is, if you are driving North on 17, you will have to drive past it and do a u-turn. Check it out and let them know David VanderWerf from Le Pain Quotidien sent you. We give it 9 Fried Artichoke Hearts!!!
  • Pat from Dottie Audrey’s told Ginger and I about a local waterfall and we went there one day and it was beautiful. Mineral Springs Waterfall. It’s a ten minute hike to the waterfall. Very beautiful.
  • If you are interested in learning more about Harriman State Park, please don’t hesitate to ask. Dave@GameMasterGames.com

Thank you for making it to the end of another Game Master Dave’s Dispatch. Give yourself 100XP and if you have gone hiking in the last month, give yourself a bonus 100XP for doing so! Hiking is good. 🙂
