“Making friends and uniting communities one piece of practical advice at a time.”
Good day gamers,
As many of you know, after we shut down Game Master Games retail gaming store, I needed to find a regular job with benefits.
As I’m a veteran, I looked for a job that was good for veterans and several people told me about the United States Postal Service. I sent out one job application and almost eight years later I am still working for the Post Office.
I now have a wealth of knowledge about the USPS from the perspective of a Letter Carrier, a Shop Steward, and the new TIAREAP (Route Count Inspection) process, but I’m far from any expert in this business.
However, I want to pass on a little bit of my knowledge. Here is a story…
Within the last couple months, my brother and my wife received some letters in the mail that looked like they were late in paying some bills. The letters were colorful, said something like “Payment Past Due” and “Confidential” and used other alarming language. They brought this concern to me about the ‘bills’. I took one look at the envelope and said, “Recycle it.”
How did I know that?
Because the stamp area on the envelope said something like, “Pre-sort Standard”, or “PRST STD”, or “Non-Profit”.
Pre-sorted Standard and Non-Profit are not ‘First-Class Mail’, so they are just advertising. No matter what is written on the letter, it is to get you to react to give them money for donation or for a product to purchase. You do not owe these advertisers anything. Check it letter, see if it’s something you want to react to, but don’t fret over it. Feel free to discard or recycle with no detriment.
Here is a picture of some of these things:
I hope this helps.
