Good day gamers,

  • Rich taught me and Bill Tzolk’in last night. Thanks Rich! What an interesting game mechanic with the turning dials.
  • I read about 15 minutes of American Cosmic to Ginger almost every day.
  • I was supposed to have Monday off, but due to my Post Office being short staffed, I’m being forced in. It has nothing to do with anything you heard in the news recently. We just have some people out on injuries and it’s the height of the vacation season.
  • Listened to several podcasts yesterday, Stuff You Should Know, Fear the Boot, Rachel Maddow Show, Brian Williams Show and Stuff Mom Never Told You.
  • Playing in a great Dominions 5 game. If you are interested in joining us for some multiplayer games, please email me at Dave@GameMasterGames.com.
  • Our Friday night our virtual Bethpage Library event of Werewolf worked out pretty good. We missed you though! We could have used more villages/werewolves. 🙂 Come join us next time on the First Friday of the Month on Zoom.

Post Office: So, the Post Office has been in the news a lot recently. As you may or may not know, I am a Letter Carrier on Long Island, NY. As of now, our office has not been affected by any of the new policies and procedures that you hear about in the news. This may change. Rachel Maddow did a whole show on Friday night about the Post Office, but she got one thing wrong and I’ll email her as soon as I get a chance. She mentioned that the Post Office revenue comes from selling stamps and the public’s taxes. As a correction, the Post Office has never taken any tax payer money to operate. It is completely funded by it’s own revenue. Without getting into a huge debate and a long, long article that I could write, here are a few things you may not know, but might help you in navigating the news:

  • The Post Office does lose money almost every year, but most of the losses are from a Congressional mandate that the Post Office fund a retirement fund 75 years in advance. This is the only company in the history of written history that has had to do this. This money was put into a fund that is non-interest bearing. When the Post Office did not have enough money to cover the mandated amount that they had to put in, they borrowed money from Congress to put into the fund mandated by Congress. As of now, since this started in 2006, there is very little money in the account. Apparently, Congress took the $40+ Billion dollars out to pay for debt incurred by the War on Terrorism. Now, when the Post Office needs money for retirement funds, Congress gives them a check to cover the expenses for just that year. Please note: The Postal Service finances is now very confusing.
  • The Post Office can’t change the pricing of their products without the Postal Regulatory Committee agreeing on price changes. Here is their website: PRC.COM
  • Due to the two reasons above, the Post Office has not had much money available for technology upgrades like new trucks, better equipment or training at all levels.
  • The Post Office has never been designed to make a profit. Though not a registered Non-Profit Organization, it is also not a business. It’s a service.
  • The Post Office can handle the potential 330 Million ballots for the November election cycle. We deliver over 3 Billion Holiday Cards every year in December.
  • The employees of the Post Office, in previous years, have been warned to not slow down any political mail. All political advertising, regardless of party, had to be delivered by election day. I even saw, on election day, my managers in my office, holding back Letter Carriers for brief periods of time to make sure they got all of the candidate advertisements that might have been previously mis-sorted.

I probably have lots more I can bring up and as more news comes I’ll try and cover more topics. I hope you found the above information helpful.

With that, thank you for making it to the end of another Game Master Dave’s Semi-Daily Dispatch. Give yourself 100 XP and until we meet again across the internet, keep your mail dry, your return addresses in the upper left hand corner and a cold bottle of water for your Letter Carrier in the mailbox. (We do appreciate it.)

Foxy: “David Dear, did you drink enough water yesterday on the route? You seem fatigued.”

Lambie: “Yo Dude, that new beaded seat cover is rad. Should keep you coolio on the route. Can I try it out for a sit?”
