Good day gamers,
- Still dealing with some of my co-workers not wearing masks at work.
- Ginger had a Covid-19 test, because we went to the protest last week.
- Been playing a lot of games on Steam as well as Napoleon 20 on Vassal.
- Been doing some yard work, but still dealing with that battery issue on my Kobalt lawnmower.
- Entering Phase II of reopening on Long Island and we had a lively discussion about it on Over Coffee.
- I took some flower pictures during my postal route. The picture for this post is one of those flowers.
Teen D&D: Ginger is running a D&D game for the Bethpage Library this Friday night at 7pm. It’s for grades 6-12. It will be on Zoom. I saw her working hard on preparing for it this afternoon. You might have to be a Bethpage resident to attend, but not sure, so try to sign up if you are interested. I have recently been contacted by a few groups and families that would like us to run more D&D events for them. If you are interested in a game night with me and/or Ginger, let us know. Dave@GameMasterGames.com. Here is the link for the library event this Friday. Link.
Ad Astra: I just finished watching the movie Ad Astra with Brad Pitt. Did you see it? Interesting flick. It would have been better on the big screen. It was a bit slow and a psychological dramatic movie, but I did enjoy it. What were your thoughts? Email me at Dave@GameMasterGames.com. There are two games called Ad Astra. Have you played either of them?
Cat’s Cradle: I have some interesting belief systems, even though I also associate myself as a Christian. I have an idea for a book about some of those belief systems, but who knows if I’ll ever get a chance to write it. Ginger suggested I should listen to the audio book of Cat’s Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut, because of my belief systems. I downloaded it using my Libby app on my phone and listened to about half of the book over the last week or so. I ended up not liking it. It was a satirical take on religion, corporations, government etc… It just wasn’t my ‘cup of tea’. Have you read it or liked it?
GTKD: In the next couple of installments of Get To Know Dave, we are covering some of Dave’s interest in military history and especially The American Revolutionary War. The first story ties in with some of my different belief systems that I mentioned earlier. Sometime around when I was about 17 years old, I went with my parents to Washington, DC for a family vacation. We went to all the tourist sites to include Mount Vernon, the home of George Washington. As we were walking up the path to the house, I happened to look down and I immediately had a vision of being in a small cart of some sort and looking over the railing to investigate why the cart was being jostled around so much. In the vision, I discovered that it was because of the rounded white stones and I was seeing the same white stones as a 17 year old. I then jumped back to the present and wondered…have I been here before in a past life? So, I asked my Mom, have I been here before? And she responded, “Yes. We came to Mount Vernon once when you were a toddler and we went up this same path with you in a baby carriage.” Well, my initial thoughts that the vision was from a previous lifetime was crushed, but it is still interesting that as a teenager I so vividly remembered looking at the same stones as a baby. Crazy, right? More next time.
