“Making friends and uniting communities one fan flick at a time.”
Good day gamers,
No Spoilers!
Ginger and I went to see the D&D movie the other night.
Here are some thoughts in no particular order…
- We didn’t know about it, but apparently AMC theaters have D20 Popcorn holders! They looked pretty cool!
- The movie was a fun, wild, and good fan flick.
- There was homage to many elements of early D&D. Don’t blink or you will miss the classic monsters and the older characters in the background. (I didn’t see Minsc and Boo, did you?)
- There were lots of jokes and snarky comments that sometimes came so quick that I’m not sure I heard them all correctly. I actually think it would be a good movie to watch two or three times to get all the jokes.
- I think, if you have played D&D, especially 1st or 2nd Edition, you will LOVE this movie.
- If you have never played D&D, I think you will enjoy the movie for it’s storyline and action, but you will just view it as entertainment.
- If you have played a module of 5th edition, you may also be up on the latest lore and you will enjoy the storyline more. If you haven’t played a module of 5th edition, you may be a little lost, but it doesn’t matter too much.
- If you have played a game in the Forgotten Realms world you will notice names of cities and locations and characters. If not, you may be a little lost, but it probably doesn’t matter that much.
- If you know the monsters, spells, races, and classes of the current 5th edition world of D&D, you will love the special effects, costuming, and creatures. If not, you may be a little lost, but you will get the gist anyhow.
- However, with all of that said, there is still enough regular storyline that anyone can enjoy this movie. You will just enjoy it more if you are a D&D fan.
Bottom Line: I give Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves Nine 20’s on my Entertainment Check.
Tell me a scene that you thoroughly enjoyed. I’d love to hear about it. Send it to me via Sending Stone at Dave@GameMasterGames.com
See you soon, at the Table!!!

Lamby Pie, “Did you see the little tykes fighting over the old lock? LOLOLOLOLOL That was uber cool. I remember them from when I played D&D in 1979.”
Snuggle Bunny, “Boo boo, that giant owl was sure scary! I don’t want to see the movie again. What’s a dee tweenty?”
